A one off metalwork creation inspired by the Cornish coast.
Fronds of copper & brass seaweed are applied with a decorative seahorse & starfish motifs.
I collected seaweed from Marazion beach to take home to sketch for the etching artwork. The variety of seaweed to be found along the Cornish coast is amazing & the colours are inspiring!
The pieces are individually silver soldered onto either a copper or brass back plate to contrast the colours. Flux and heat create the interesting colour variations & acrylic the verdigris effects. The links are soldered closed in between each section so will not pull apart.
The piece has been lacquered to highlight the colours & protect the surface.
Designed for indoor display but could be placed outside - the metals will not rust but would patinate gently over time.
The piece includes a small brass tag with SMc initials & date stamped into it.
